chives, grass background, video, sounds

  • Through the confusion and reconstruction of plant images, as well as conveying a sense of absurdity through false naturalism, my artwork delves into existential themes such as individual freewill, responsibility, the uncertainty of existence, and the exploration of life. This closely relates to the contradiction I mentioned earlier, experienced in a context of collectivism and obedience to authority, along with reflections on the absurd.

  • The composition of my work primarily includes withered chives, simulated wind sounds, grass wallpaper, and fresh chives. In the visual representation, I manually shake a bunch of chives in front of a static grass wallpaper, accompanied by the prolonged sound of wind, creating a false sense of nature. This method emphasizes the simulation and distortion of natural states while presenting the differentiation between wild grass and chives. Exploiting the similar appearance of withered chives and wild grass, I intentionally blur the boundary between fresh chives and wild grass by placing dried chives beneath the visual. This aims to provoke contemplation on the boundary between reality and fiction, prompting viewers to ponder whether plant states result from natural evolution or human intervention, and the potential similarity between plants in different states. This initiates considerations on the existence of similarity in human society and explores how individuals are perceived and distinguished in society.
